This years easter started already on wednesday for me, the day before Holy or Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, as all Norwegians stop working at 12 o clock the day before the christian holiday. This meant automatically that all shops were shut at 16:00. This years easter is a little different from other easters in that we had someone staying for the whole week with us. Stefan arrived on thursday afternoon on the airport Sola (coming from Bonn - Amsterdam), but had to wait for a very long time on his luggage, which appeared to have stayed somewhere in Amsterdam Schiphol. So he got a number to call and a reference number to track back his luggage. We ended up calling back and forth with Norway and Holland and in the end his clothes (and our easter sweets) arrived with a later flight that evening which we picked up at 10.30pm. For our breakfasts we had boiled eggs, matzes and little chicken decoration. Our evening meals were mostly healthy (macaroni, spaghetti, hotdogs, soup, pizza) with a nice fresh and fruity salate. On Friday we made a nice walk (after a short drive) on the beach of Sola (Solastranden) and we also did see an ancient magic circle closeby, which felt magical to me for real (somehow). This same Friday Linn-Regina arrived and so we had a fun Easter weekend with her and Stefan. At saturday we went shopping (mostly food for the coming days, but Stefan also wanted some urgent stuff like a toothbrush, which he forgot to buy anyway and a few postcards to friends) and later on we went out for dinner (by Stefan) at the Pizza restaurant Dolly Dimples in Stavanger center. The pizza's they make are just very very good, you really do taste the vegetables that are used instead of a simple and flat pizza taste with everything mixed as you get so often with other pizza restaurants and frozen pizza's. Before we went home again we saw a submarine on the harbour near the Toll office, it appeared to be a Dutch submarine which most likely was there for restocking (or a training together with the local NATO here). Several Dutch militairs were going out to enjoy a drink at the many harbour situated bars in the area. On Sunday Linn-Regina also had to leave again as she had easter celebrations with her family. On monday we had a relaxing day, we were mostly outside as it was about 14 degrees. We also let out all the kitties for once, which also meant that we could air the house a bit. Not that it helped much, as the farmers in the environment had just decided to spread a smelly substance on the fields... On tuesday I unfortunately had to work again, but as we had some appointments in the center of Stavanger that day, I kept the day short with some overtime hours I still had. Tuesday evening we enjoyed cocktails at cocktailbar Broremann in Stavanger. They had a great website, but appeared to have forgotten to print their cocktail menu for use in the restaurant (unprofessional). We just had to guess what kind of drinks we wanted. After one alcoholic drink for Theresa, one non-alcoholic drink for the driver (me) and two alcoholic drinks for Stefan it was time to get home...time to drink for Steven.. well I don't drink heavily luckily, but I did enjoy a Baileys afterwards at home with some documentary on TV together with Theresa. Wednesday both me and Theresa had to work, so Stefan was home alone for the afternoon. This day was the last day of Stefan's stay so we decided to have a French dinnermeal as a goodbye party. Very enjoyable with nice cheese types (Brie, some herbcheese, some cheese with wallnuts, some garlic cheese, Norwegian cheese) and ofcourse a red wine. I am not a big wine fan, but thought that, since I won the wine at my work on a lottery, I should at least try it a bit. Well, my opinion didn't change: wine tastes like.... ehm.. wine! So it took me about an hour to drink 1/10 of a glass. Stefan finished the rest of the bottle. On thursday morning at 5am(!) we had to get all up to bring Stefan to the airport where he had a flight at 6:40. I went afterwards quite soon to work, which meant I could get home earlier as well for a bit of extra sleep. I must say I have enjoyed this very relaxed easter holiday very much! Thanks for your stay Stefan! Thanks also to Linn-Regina ofcourse for her short stay during Easter. We enjoyed it very much. There are photos of this soon available. Stefan has uploaded them to another website, so I have to get that address before I can upload some to this weblog. Next up this year is: and we just have to work on and perhaps take here and there a longer weekend off to relax, visit family and friends and take short trips through Norway. |
