The weekend before Christmas, was rather a special one. I, Theresa, decided to join the Norwegian Dyrebeskyttelsen (animal protection). I finally found them after many years of searching. Norway is on the bottom of the list to take care of animals they have no RSPCA or animal police, so it's good that the animal protection service exist. They are very new and they only started a few years ago. After my mom bought Olivia and Idefix (2 beautiful kitties) of them, I decided to put my own house up as a foster home to homeless cats. A month later I got a phone call from the boss herself (Haldis), she told me she had two sister cats who needed a foster home. Me and steven agreed and made an appointment to meet up with them the weekend before Christmas. I met haldis at her mothers home. The mother herself has over 15 cats in foster care. Most of them were saved form starvation, dumped or from beeing put down. Many of these cats were only about a year old and the stories I heard how people treat their pets makes me and steven shake our heads. After greeting some of the cats the mother of haldis, who is named Grete, I had finally the chance to meet my 2 new daughters Kira and Nusse. Kira is a black cat with a white chest, while Nusse is black and white. Both were very beautiful but their background is a very sad one. Their owners got devorced, the wife left the husband at the farm, the husband found a girlfriend and just left leaving 28 chickens, 20 dogs, 7 cats and a horse to suffer mass starvation! Luckily the neighbours saw this and phoned the Mattilsynet up. They came and saved every single animal from starvation, luckily no one died. Sadly kira and nusse were one of the 7 cats. When they were rescued they were very thin and Nusse catched a nasty cold. It seems as her eyes had dark stains. This all happends 2 months ago, thank goodness the Dyrebeskyttelsen Farsund took very good care of them. Me and steven drove back with our new girls in the back. The animal protection is paying for the food, sand and gave us a cat toilet. Vet bills they pay as well. Our job is just to give our new girls a safe and loving home. Kira is very elegant she looks a bit like Abyssinies, like Tiger. Nusse looks more like an ordinary house cat but she is the cheaky one. Both girls are very social playfull and love to cuddle, but then again they are also shy at times and patience is required. Nusse and kira can never be seperated, they both are the closest friends. When I was ill suffering from a heavy infection in my throat, I went downstairs one night and wittnessed the two girls sleeping and cuddling up together. When I sat down, both girls woke up and sat beside me keeping me warm. Normally at night both girls sleep with me and Steven. Nusse either under my blanket purring, Kira at the end of the bed or sometimes they both curl up together and sleep, it's a real heartwarming view. Me and Steven are very happy to have our new daughters and even Jenny likes them(!), which is amazing as she normally hates new cats. All our cats are starting to befriend themselves with the girls but it's mostly Nusse who is the social one while Kira is trying to play the big boss in the house xD. Once I got hold of some pictures, I will upload them, but Stevens camera broke down :(.
