We started our journey at 9.30 at Monday 26th of November to Norway. After saying goodbye to my parents and grandfather and Rover (cat) we drove off following the TomTom, which directed us straight into the sand mess at Delden (haha) so we made our D-tour ourselves around the trouble and went on to the road past Hengelo and Oldenzaal to Germany. We had a good travel through Germany with stops at Jeddeloh 2 for some Berliner Bollen and many tankstations along the road for lunch and small rests. Only a bit of snow by temperatures near the 3 degrees and work on the road, was slowing us down. We left Germany at 18.00 to enter Denmark. It started to get dark quickly but because of the bread, drinks and Berliner Bollen we were not that hungry. So we decided to take the whole trip at once with only a few stops for a drink. We arrived 21.30 in Hirtshals where we had a long wait till the boat. There was a big storm going on with lots of wind and a cold 3 degrees. We wanted to check in, but the check in office wasn't open yet. So we parked the car to look for our own moving truck and to see if we could get some information on the boat and the restaurant (started to get really hungry). At 22.00 the restaurant would open, at 22.30 we could check in with the car and at 23.45 the boat would arrive. The truck didn't arrive yet, but at 23.00, we were waiting for check-in at that time, we could also welcome them to Hirtshals (see photos). After check-in we parked our car in line (see photo) and went to the restaurant for a small meal and wondered if we could talk to the people of the moving company. Yes we found them and had a short talk with the youngest driver of the two (the other one was tired and went straight to his truckbed. We ate french fries and hamburger at the restaurant and went down for some pictures and to get to the car, as the storm was making us very cold. I made some pictures of the truck at the waitingline, the other cars waiting, the boat coming in lightened up like a christmas tree (christmas lights in the top) and then went to the car to wait for the boat to arrive. At about 00.30 we could drive into the boat, we were the first four cars to enter the ship. We had to drive all the way to the front to go in reverse on a ramp (scary). Our car was too long offcourse, so we had to redo the thing on the ramp more to the right of a car to get it right. When I stepped out of the car a Norwegian hunter told me I was only 4 cm off the net. This net he is talking about is a safety net so you don't drop down to the deck below (See picture). When the boat sailed off to Norway, the shops and slot machines opened. We went for a short shopping and got pretty sick already in the shopping center as the boat made a turning up and down left to right wave feeling from the storm. I saw the small boats that helped the big boat out of the harbour going up and down below the waves and top of the waves (about 4 meters high waves). After this we checked-in for our hut and went to bed at 2.00 for a well deserved sleep, which only would last four hours because at 6 the huts would close. They knocked on our doors at 6.00 and spoke on the intercom to leave our beds to make ready for arrival. Tuesday early morning at 7 we arrived the harbour of Kristiansand where we would drive off the boat. Unfortunately our car was on the ramp that was still tilted upwards, so we couldn't enter the ramp, nor drive off the boat. After about 15 minutes they finally put the ramp down so we could make our way out of the boat to the Toll. At the Toll they had a checking day, which means so much that all cars were supposed to go in a hall and had to be checked through. They asked us if we brought any alcohol or tobacco. We had only one bottle of wine and one bottle of baileys with, which we answered. The trunk had to be opened and we told in a few sentences (in Norwegian by Theresa) what was in each bag. A few bags were removed, but luckily he said it was all okay and I could put everything back in. Then we moved on and met up with sister Lisa for a hot choco at her workplace (hotel). At 8.45 we moved on with our journey to Kvinesdal. When we were at Lyngdal (9.30) the truck called us that they were at our place in Faråsvegen 20. We told them to call the other number (of Laura) as she has the key to our flat. We arrived at 10.15 to help them unload the truck. Then they had to make a call to Oslo to make sure that the entrance to Norway was okay with the goods. That goes via another moving company. They sometimes ask to call back in half an hour so they can check it with customs in Oslo. So they had to wait with me for this call. If it wouldn't have been okay for the toll, the toll would ask them to come by with the truck with the goods to check. That would mean that they would have to load all the goods again in the truck and bring them to Oslo (10 hour trip), check them in, drive back and unload. What a fantastic system haha. Laura asked if the movers needed the boxes back, he answered: "yes we come pick them up tomorrow" (big smile). "Tomorrow!!" Laura asked? "wow than I have to hurry". "No", says the mover, "I was kidding, the boxes are yours". Because they had to wait for half an hour, we offered them a coffee at the truckers restaurant / Shell station, where we got a free coffee (so the 100 nok he could keep for his trip to Stavanger and Bergen). The truck had to first load the other truck onto the truck and then went for the coffee. There they got their phone call that everything was okay. After the coffee we said goodbye and made a few more pictures of the truck leaving. Than we went back to the flat to check the state. After that we decided to go for breakfast and a short sleep at Theresa's place. Later that day we started unpacking together with Laura of boxes in mainly the kitchen. I also did change some shelves around for the livingroom and the workroom/sleepingroom and did build up the bed for the sleeping room. |
