Theresa's Citizenship Ceremony, a ceremony for welcoming her in the Norwegian society and giving her a couple of rights, such as rights to vote and having a Norwegian Nationality and Norwegian Passport. It was a day or rather a couple of hours with celebration and cake Theresa was already Norwegian Citizen for about a year, but as the ceremony is only held once a year, she had to wait nearly a year to join in on the festivities that go along with this special event. And special it is, because it gives her indeed right (like a few months ago did happen) rights to vote for the countries politics. Also she is allowed by Great-Brittain to keep her British Nationality next to her now newly acquired NorwegianNationality. If she wants she can even get a Norwegian passport now. We were months ahead invited for this event on Sunday 1st of November 2009 and asked to subscribe with the amount of people (max 4 extra) that Theresa wanted to take with. So we drove to Kristiansand to a school in Vågsbygd where we could take coffee and tea until the ceremony started. We were all ofcourse dressed up in our best clothing. I made a couple of photos of the whole happening which I have placed on the photobooks and as you see this webpage can now handle images inside blogposts, so I have also included a few here for you. The ceremony was opened by the man (woman actually) who is the boss of whole Vest-Agder. She had a nice story about the many nationalities that were sitting in the hall. There were 85 new citizens with their family, making the Aula of the school being filled up to 225 people. Also invited were the majors of all the counties, but unfortunately the major of Kvinesdal couldn't make it to the ceremony. Following the program, after the speech was a musical interlude played on piano and cello by two students of the school we were visiting for this ceremony whereafter another speech by the same Provincewoman and another nice play by the two students. Then the Culture man of Kristiansand with a speech. Then the more fun part came, one of the people of the organisation did call (on a humourious way) people to come up to the front to receive a congratulations from the Provincewoman and to receive a book about Norway and it's history and what rights a new citizen has in Norway. This book also has an introduction story written and signed by King Harald. Afterwards a few verses of the National Anthem of Norway was sung by us all. Then we were invited for taking pictures of the Mayors/provincewoman/men and the new citizens and for coffee, tea and a choice out of several cakes. We concluded the festivities of this day with a dinner at a restaurant in Kristiansand. |
