'That will be 169 NOK!' the checkout lady said to the lady in front of me in queue. I was in the supermarket yesterday to buy two milk (13,30nok per liter) and waited in the queue where the checkout lady was scanning a kilo of cherries for the person in front of me. The checkout lady said: 'That will be 169 kr'. The girl said: 'What?! So much, that must be a mistake!' She went back to where she got the cherries from and yes indeed, 169 kr for 1kg of cherries. Now we are used to high prices in the supermarkets for vegetables and fruits and beer and well actually everything is really expensive.. but so expensive for just a bit of fruit, where half of it is probably a stone?? Does it still surprise you that people eat fastfood? I don't know. Fastfood is at times also expensive, but the Norwegians love to eat the pølse (hotdogs) at the service stations and pizza (Grandiosa) at home or at the big pizza restaurants (Dolly Dimple's, Pontis Pizza, Pizza Inn). We try to keep it healthy though and buy vegetables, you just have to watch carefully which types or brands you take or where they come from. |
